One day out of the year, the kind folks at the Lingenfelter Collection open their doors to us mere mortals so that we may drool over cars that cost more than our lives. Today was that day, and if you aren’t amazed by the caliber of cars in this garage then you are either A. Jay Leno or B. one of those UAE oil magnates that has a Zonda as your ‘beater car.’
Here are some pictures from today to help illustrate my point:
Here’s the LaFerrari next to the Enzo next to the F40 next to the 288 GTO next to the 599 GTO next to the FF. You know, the usual.
I must also point out that I was never sold on the LaFerrari’s looks until I saw it in person. Having seen the P1, the 918, and now the TheFerrari, I must say that the bright red Italian is the best looking of the 3.
He also has a Reventon, because who wouldn’t want a million dollar Murciélago?
You know you are in a room with some impressive motor carriages when you have to go back because you forgot to take pictures of the Bugatti Veyron.
Just a Porsche 959, no big deal.
Alfa 4C?
Next to an Alfa 8C? I’ll take both please.
You know you have truly arrived when you own a purple Vector.
New California T, nice looking car but very underwhelming given the stiff competition.
Wasn’t this car on the VetteKart episode of RoadKill?
Some $kay bait for good measure.
And that was only in the first room. The other 2 didn’t have near the amount of traffic because to the casual observer, these other 2 were filled with random tuned GM products, but actually there was some really cool metal.
This is the Blue Flame supercharged engine in a 1953 Corvette
There was this thing!
And a Banchee from GTA looking thing!
This one has an Eagle on it because ‘Murica
There is also this conglomeration of.. parts.
This exists as well.
This one is blue carbon fiber.
See? It’s so blue
This thing was really cool
8.2 Liters of freedom
And 8.2 meters of air vents.
Then there were some odd cars.
Really?
A Fiero. Why?
What is this?
For real. What is it?
WHAT ARE YOU!?!?
This doesn’t help at all!
SERIOUSLY?
Is that a Pantera wing!?
Give back this man’s wing!
Ken doesn’t even have matching shoes!
Some times even Ken Lingenfelter needs to go slow.
The fastest car in the collection. A Top Fuel Funny Car.
Why? Because fuck you thats why.
So there you have it, that’s my take on the Lingenfelter Collection.

A well done aggressive looking C3 can be awesome. Those pictures are pretty good examples of good ones too.

The car you are confused on what the hell it is is a Pontiac Tojan. Basically another completely forgotten car of the 80's. They were commissioned by GM to be built by a company called Knudsen Automotive from '85 to '91 (I think), supposedly to compete with Ferrari (It did NO such thing). In reality, it was basically a body kit for a GTA T/A, powered by a 305 TPI and a 700R4. It was horrendously overpriced, there were anywhere from 150-300 built (estimates vary).
Otherwise, sweet pictures. Wish I could have made it; working on Saturday sucks.

Thank you for the information! I however will continue to refer to is as the Pontiac Toejam because that is just an all round better name

iirc from when i was there a couple years ago this is a bubble back grand prix?
weren’t they designed as some kind of nascar homologation special?

Great collection!
I just saw my first Enzo this weekend, as well as a GT in the same color scheme as this one (both from a local club). The most fascinating thing to my 4-year-old was that he was taller than both cars. Here’s Enzodudarino, since I’m not into the whole brevity thing:

2nd time at the collection, Last July I got invited out when another car club was out there. Then the open house. Love the old vettes and the exotics are crazy to see in person. The C6RS look a lot better in Race Car Yellow.

That green C4 convertible is a Callaway Sledgehammer. Callaway, being another famous Corvette tuner. Lingenfelter actually took one of them to an absurd 254mph.

That Pontiac 2+2 you took a picture of is a fairly rare car with less than 1,300 units produced. It is a 1986 Aerocoupe that was a homologation car built by Pontiac for NASCAR. It had a fix rear window (a bit of a design flaw for street use), and all units produced came in the same silver two tone paint job with a 5.0L V8 and four speed auto. Most of the rarity nowadays is that it’s very difficult to find them in near perfect collector shape, since the buyers that did buy them actually used them.
I’ve owned half a dozen Fieros. That looks like a pretty clean GT.

For the manly man who thinks this is an acceptable wingman to prevent you from getting a penicillin shot versus a conventional one in your wallet that has been there since your older brother never used it and gave it to you so that you could think you were cool now that you had an expired, dried out baby stopper in you back pocket.

Are this and the following car Callaway Vettes? I’m not a huge Callaway guy, let alone a Vette guy, but these seem to have the look and feel of a Callaway creation. Either way they’re some sort of Vette body kits, which are never really impressive.

The Car Stories podcast had a nice interview with Ken Lingenfelter up several weeks ago, it is worth a listen. The Car Stories podcast itself is great, too, if you’ve never heard it before.
Ken seems like a pretty down to earth guy and the fact that he opens up his collection like this once a year just reinforces that point.
![]() 04/27/2015 at 12:00 |

It is a Tojan GT Coupe. Basically an 80’s F Body with a body kit.
![]() 04/27/2015 at 12:02 |

Yep, it looks like it. He also has an Aero Coupe right next to it. May not be the most exciting cars, but man they look awesome.
![]() 04/27/2015 at 12:03 |

Been to it a couple of times now, absolutely worth it, better than any car show. You will see more cars there than almost anywhere else. Ken is cool too, he will talk to you and even occasionally let you sit in the cars.

If I remember correctly, then this Vector M12 was a bit of a “oops” purchase. Lingenfelter wanted the twin-turbo V8 Vector WX3, which is the spiritual predecessor to the M12’s design. However, this M12 has a Lamborghini V12 (basically a Diablo re-body) and not the WX3 prototype’s Chevy V8. It sat in the back of his collection for a while in shame until he finally realized there are only 14 M12s left of the original 17/18. So it’s not his desired ‘Murican-powered Vector but a rare Vector none the less.

Doesn’t he own at least one Corvette from every model year? He’s got some serious eye-candy for ‘Vette enthusiasts.
Side note: why did he omit arguably the best Ferrari supercar of them all - the F50???

If i had a wad of cash to blow on upgrading a hot sports car, Lingenfelter would be my first and only choice. Seriously. You have never heard any horror stories from them. They are worthy of trust. Hennessey, on the other hand..
![]() 04/27/2015 at 12:35 |

Ah so it is. I saw that nose and those fender vents which are identical to the Sledgehammer and assumed it was just a convertible variant.
![]() 04/27/2015 at 12:37 |

Looking at the shapes, I think there is a C5 under that body.
![]() 04/27/2015 at 12:40 |

Sadly let down by the fact that they'd sell these body kits to every trailer park mechanic who'd half-ass them in place and drive around with narrow standard-width wheels.
I do love me a Daytona though. There was an "original" one built by Ecklers from a showroom fresh Corvette around my dad's area while I was growing up. Supposedly is was #3 of the ones mentioned here , same colors as this one (Not the same car). It had a weird/awesome setup of dual superchargers like this one as well (Likely the Lingenfelter engine they mention after the failed turbo setups), every bit as wild as the exterior.
(Posting pictures doesn't work as it should for me)

"Collector" is right....when your cars are parked so they need numerous others moved to be driveable, they are a "collection" rather than a "stable"....Leno can get most any of his cars out with only moving one additional vehicle.

The Bugatti, TheFerrari, and Enzo were fired up and revved a bit. The 959 and F40 were highly requested but there were “battery issues”. I was disappointed in the sound from TheFerrari

![]() 04/27/2015 at 13:44 |

Okay...okay. So hear me out. First of all, wow. That's a truly amazing collection by any standards. However, is it weird to anyone else seeing a Bugatti, Italian supercar, or other rarity with a Lingenfelter decal affixed to the windscreen? The only ones I expected to see those on were the Vettes. I feel like I'm being a little fickle here, and if wrongfully so I apologize, but it's sort of a mind....uh bone to see those on there like seeing a VTEC decal on the back of a RAM 3500.
And yeah I get that it's the Lingenfelter collection and that when they take them out on a track people know who they belong to.
![]() 04/27/2015 at 13:51 |

Yup, one of 10 Callaway Speedsters built. That was back when Callaway built special cars (I’d say ending with the 1999 C12, of which Lingenfelter owns 2 of the 19 built); now they’re just supercharged versions of the current factory Corvette that’s slightly cheaper than the actual Z06.
